Alphonso Johnson - Various Grooves

Alphonso was the bass player in Weather Report before Jaco joined the band. Al has a tremendous groove and is just one of the best bass players there is. He was overshadowed quite a bit when Jaco took his place but, while he was in the band he layed down some classic pre-Jaco Weather Report bass lines. Check him out on CD's like Tale Spinnin and Sweetnighter. Yes he, not Jaco, played bass on the title cut of Black Market.
