Paul Jackson - Various Head Hunters Grooves

Paul Jackson, for those of you who aren’t familiar with him, is one of baddest funk bass players of all time. He played on Herbie Hancock’s landmark Head Hunters album and on several other Herbie records like Thrust, Manchild, and Mr. Hands. He burned into legend the basslines to tunes like Chameleon, Watermelon Man and Actual Proof. Paul, along with drummer Mike Clark and percussionist Bill Summers provided some of the funkiest grooves ever played on record. I’ve taken the "hook" from a few of Paul’s most well known grooves and transcribed them here.
