Hank Mobley - Tenor Sax Solo on "Tenor Conclave"
1956, brings together four top tenors of contrasting styles: Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Zoot Sims, and Al Cohn. The result is a feast for serious tenor fans. And the three "other tenors" hold their own with Coltrane. Under appreciated Hank Mobley is particularly outstanding. His soft, subtle bop lines are a nice foil to Coltrane. Zoot and Al, Prez disciples, offer a further contrast. All four are in top form. Transcription by Jeff Ellwood.
